Therapeutic Modalities
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is one of the most prevalent and most talked about therapeutic modalities available today. In our work we take this approach to mean the relationship between our thoughts, feelings and behaviors. We will focus on interrupting rumination and negativity with breath-based stress reduction strategies, promoting sensory awareness, and other mindful approaches to our thought processes.
Mindfulness
Throughout our time together we will develop a relationship to what is actually happening in our daily lives, rather than being lost in expectations, anxieties or other challenges. We will learn how to be lead by our emotional experience without being controlled by it. Becoming empowered to work with the emotional realities of our lives is a goal we set from the beginning and practice throughout our healing.
Social Justice
In order to explore your inner world we need to have a shared understanding of who you are to yourself and how you identify as a part of the world around you. This means I will ask you to share your story. We will discuss experiences that are characterized by class, race, gender, and culture. We will explore how norms and cultural narratives have formed our attitudes towards certain emotions. We will pay due regard to who we are in the world structurally and factually.
Trauma Informed Care
Like all aspects of our emotional life there is a unique range of experience regarding pain. Spilling a glass of water at the table elicits a type of anxiety. Our shoulders’ tense, our thoughts jump. We learn to move through this kind of discomfort fluidly and arrive at the other side of it without holding onto the experience or our reactions to it. Trauma interrupts the cultivation of a balanced life in both our mind and body such that we identify with habitual interruptions and discomfort as a baseline state.
The spectrum of approaches to healing trauma is diverse and brilliant. As we develop our therapeutic relationship we will become aware of how trauma is showing up in your life. As we do, we will collaborate on all of the elements that contribute to your healing.
